Hold the wine

Sax.jpgNew research from Dell and the Ponemon Institute has revealed that up to 900 laptops a week go missing at Heathrow Airport. This laptop black hole may be a combination of factors - tired, stressed out, distracted business travelers with one eye on the departures board and one hand on a cold beer. Interesting stuff, once again highlighting the value of encrypting data on your employees' laptops.

Less well publicised however is the wine black hole that is the security area at Heathrow; on a recent visit Sneak noticed hordes of unfortunates having their wines and spirits confiscated from their hand luggage and placed carefully into a large bin, no doubt for "examination" at a later date. Sneak isn't saying the pain of losing a laptop is the same as these absent-minded travelers experienced but as I watched my very own £15 bottle of Shiraz hit the bin I can honestly say it took my breath away.
